چکیده

Short abstract We present a method for the fully automatic segmentation of cell nuclei from 3D confocal laser microscopy images based on the combination of wave propagation techniques and elastically deformable Fourier models. The resulting invariant shape descriptors will be used to build a statistical shape model for determining the average intersection lengths between cell nuclei and single particle tracks of ionizing radiation. Abstract In this paper we present a method for the fully automatic segmentation of cell nuclei from 3D confocal laser microscopy images. The method is based on the combination of previously proposed techniques which have been reened for the requirements of this task. A 3D extension of a wave propagation technique applied to gradient magnitude images allows us a precise initialization of elastically deformable Fourier models and therefore a fully automatic image analysis. The shape parameters are transformed into invariant descriptors and provide the basis of a statistical analysis of cell nucleus shapes. This analysis will be carried out in order to determine average intersection lengths between cell nuclei and single particle tracks of ionizing radiation. This allows a quantiication of absorbed energy on living cells leading to a better understanding of the biological signiicance of exposure to radiation in low doses.

Neuronal nuclei localization in 3D using level set and watershed segmentation from laser scanning microscopy images

Abnormalities of the number and location of cells are hallmarks of both developmental and degenerative neurological diseases. However, standard stereological methods are impractical for assigning each cell's nucleus position within a large volume of brain tissue. We propose an automated approach for segmentation and localization of the brain cell nuclei in laser scanning microscopy (LSM) embryo...

Fractional Entropy Based Active Contour Segmentation of Cell Nuclei in Actin-Tagged Confocal Microscopy Images

In the framework of cell structure characterization for predictive oncology, we propose in this paper an unsupervised statistical region based active contour approach integrating an original fractional entropy measure for single channel actin tagged fluorescence confocal microscopy image segmentation. Following description of statistical based active contour segmentation and the mathematical de...

Statistical 3D Segmentation With Greedy Connected Component Labelling Refinement

A new approach for segmenting 3D voxel data sets is presented. It is semi-automatic and consists of two phases. First, the initial segmentation is accomplished by voxel labeling using statistical maximum likelihood estimation techniques. The novelty of the present approach is that the type probability distribution function is not required a priori. A multi-parameter distribution which includes ...

Light and electron microscope of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) organs following exposure to various sublethal concentrations of diazinon

Histopathological effects of different sublethal concentrations (1, 2 and 4 mg/l) of diazinon, an organophosphorus pesticide, on gill, liver, spleen and kidney of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) were studied after 1, 7, 15, 30 and 45 days post-exposing fishes weighting 850 ± 155 g to the toxicant for 12 hours at 18-22ºC. In addition, tissues of nostril were examined for transmission electr...

Segmentation of confocal microscope images of cell nuclei in thick tissue sections.

Segmentation of intact cell nuclei from three-dimensional (3D) images of thick tissue sections is an important basic capability necessary for many biological research studies. However, segmentation is often difficult because of the tight clustering of nuclei in many specimen types. We present a 3D segmentation approach that combines the recognition capabilities of the human visual system with t...
